Antioch

Antioch was an ancient city on the Orontes River near modern Antakya, founded by the Seleucid dynasty and later a major Roman imperial center.

Seleucus I Nicator: A Macedonian general who founded the Seleucid Empire after Alexander the Great's death. He founded Antioch around 300 BCE as a capital for his new kingdom.
Seleucia Pieria: The Seleucid port city at the mouth of the Orontes, serving as Antioch's principal maritime outlet. Its harbor linked the inland capital to Mediterranean trade and naval routes.
Libanius: A fourth-century Greek rhetorician and teacher whose speeches and letters describe life in the eastern Roman Empire. His writings provide unusually detailed testimony about late antique Antioch.
