Antiseptic surgery

Antiseptic surgery uses chemical agents and handling practices to reduce microorganisms on wounds, instruments, and surgical surroundings, lowering the risk of postoperative infection.

Carbolic acid: Carbolic acid, or phenol, is an aromatic chemical compound used as a disinfectant and in chemical manufacturing. Joseph Lister used diluted carbolic acid to treat wounds, instruments, and dressings.
Joseph Lister: Joseph Lister was a British surgeon who developed and promoted antiseptic methods in nineteenth-century surgery. His carbolic acid system established antiseptic surgery as a recognizable practice.
