Antlia

Antlia is a small constellation in the southern sky, introduced by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in the 18th century and named for an air pump.

Constellation: A region of the celestial sphere, often named for a figure or object formed by its stars. Antlia is one of the 88 officially recognized regions of the sky.
Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille: An 18th-century French astronomer who mapped the southern sky and introduced 14 constellations. Lacaille established Antlia during his southern-sky survey.

Alpha Antliae: A red giant star and the brightest star in the constellation Antlia. This star is Antlia’s brightest point, though it is not exceptionally bright overall.
Air pump: A device that removes air from a vessel or moves air by creating pressure differences. Antlia’s Latin name commemorates the scientific instrument it represents.
