Anton Chekhov

Anton Chekhov (1860–1904) was a Russian physician, playwright, and short-story writer. His restrained, psychologically nuanced works include The Cherry Orchard, Uncle Vanya, and “The Lady with the Dog.”

The Cherry Orchard: Anton Chekhov’s 1904 play follows a Russian landowning family facing the sale of its estate and cherry orchard. His final play turns a family’s loss of its estate into a comedy of social change.
