Aquarium fish

Aquarium fish are fish kept in aquariums for display, breeding, or study. They include freshwater and marine species selected for their appearance, behavior, or suitability for captivity.

Aquarium: A transparent or open container designed to keep aquatic organisms in water. Aquariums provide the controlled aquatic environment in which these fish are kept.
Ornamental fish: Fish kept chiefly for aesthetic display in homes, public aquariums, or ponds. Display is a major reason people keep aquarium fish.
Betta: A group of freshwater fish in the genus Betta, including the Siamese fighting fish. Bettas are popular for their colors and distinctive territorial behavior.
Aquarium shrimp: Freshwater or marine shrimp kept in aquariums for display, breeding, or algae control. Shrimp share aquarium habitats with fish but have different biology and care needs.
Fish welfare: The physical and behavioral well-being of fish under human care or in other conditions. Tank size, social conditions, and husbandry affect the well-being of captive fish.
Freshwater aquarium: An aquarium containing water with low concentrations of dissolved salts. Many commonly kept aquarium fish come from freshwater habitats.
Aquaculture: The farming of aquatic organisms in controlled or managed environments. Commercial production supplies many fish sold for aquariums.
Guppy: A small live-bearing freshwater fish native to northeastern South America and nearby islands. Guppies are hardy, colorful, and reproduce readily in captivity.
Aquatic plants: Plants adapted to grow partly or wholly in water. Plants can share a tank with fish while shaping its habitat and water conditions.
Invasive species: A non-native organism that spreads and causes ecological or economic harm. Released or escaped aquarium fish can establish harmful populations outside their native range.
