Arabian oryx

The Arabian oryx is a desert antelope native to the Arabian Peninsula, distinguished by long, straight horns. Hunting drove it extinct in the wild before captive breeding and reintroduction restored wild populations.

Operation Oryx: A 1960s international effort that captured Arabian oryx for a captive-breeding program. This operation established the captive population from which later reintroductions began.
