Arabian Plate

The Arabian Plate is a tectonic plate carrying the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent parts of the Middle East. Its motion helps open the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and drives collision with Eurasia along the Zagros region.

Red Sea Rift: An active rift where Arabia is separating from Africa and new oceanic crust forms in the south. This divergent boundary marks the plate’s westward separation from the African Plate.

Gulf of Aden Seafloor Spreading: The production of oceanic crust at spreading centers in the Gulf of Aden. Its spreading history helps constrain how Arabia’s southern boundary evolved.
