Arabic prosody

Arabic prosody is the system for analyzing the meters of classical Arabic verse through patterns of long and short syllables. Its traditional framework organizes these patterns into named meters and rhythmic feet.

Arabic metrical feet: Arabic metrical feet are recurring groups of syllables represented by conventional patterns of long and short quantities. Feet provide the units whose combinations form Arabic meters.
Arabic phonology: Arabic phonology is the study of the sound system and sound patterns of Arabic. Its sound patterns determine how syllables are formed and counted.
Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi: Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi was an eighth-century Arab philologist credited with systematizing Arabic prosody. His analysis established the classical framework for classifying Arabic meters.
