Aragonese Crusade

The Aragonese Crusade was a French-led invasion of the Crown of Aragon in 1285, proclaimed by Pope Martin IV amid the War of the Sicilian Vespers.

Papal bull: A formal document issued by a pope and authenticated with a lead seal. Martin IV used papal instruments to authorize the campaign and its religious privileges.
War of the Sicilian Vespers: A conflict beginning in 1282 over control of Sicily, involving the Angevins, the Crown of Aragon, and their allies. The crusade was a French response to Aragonese intervention in Sicily.
