Area

Area is a measure of the two-dimensional extent of a region. It is expressed in square units and is additive across non-overlapping parts.

Length: Length is a measure of distance between points or along a path. Area is built from two-dimensional extents, while length measures one-dimensional extent.
Area of a rectangle: The area of a rectangle is the product of its side lengths. Counting rows and columns of unit squares gives the basic area formula.
Land surveying: Land surveying measures and maps the positions, boundaries, and dimensions of land parcels. Surveyors calculate parcel area for mapping, ownership, and planning.
Perimeter: Perimeter is the total length of the boundary of a two-dimensional region. Figures can share a perimeter yet enclose different areas, and vice versa.
Square unit: A square unit is the area of a square whose sides each have one unit of length. Area values count how many fixed unit squares cover a region.
Area of a circle: The area of a circle with radius r is πr². This formula extends area calculation beyond figures made from straight edges.
Planimeter: A planimeter is an instrument that measures the area enclosed by a traced boundary. It provides a direct physical measurement for irregular map regions.
Volume: Volume measures the three-dimensional space occupied by a solid. Volume extends measurement to three dimensions rather than the plane.
Plane geometry: Plane geometry studies points, lines, angles, and figures in a flat two-dimensional space. Area is one of the central measurements assigned to plane figures.
Triangulation: Triangulation divides a region into triangles by connecting selected points. Breaking a polygon into triangles reduces its area to simpler calculations.
