Arms industry

The global business sector that designs, produces, and sells weapons, military equipment, and related services to governments and other customers.

Military procurement: The process by which armed forces acquire equipment, services, and supplies. Government purchasing programs create much of the industry's demand.
Military–industrial complex: A network of relationships linking defense industries, armed forces, and government institutions. It describes the institutional ties that can sustain defense spending and production.
Commercial aerospace: The industry that designs and produces aircraft and related systems for civilian use. Civilian aerospace shares technologies and manufacturers with defense aviation but serves different buyers.
Arms control: Agreements and policies that limit, regulate, or reduce weapons and military capabilities. Arms-control measures can constrain the markets that arms producers serve.
Arms trade: The international transfer of conventional weapons and related military equipment. Cross-border sales connect manufacturers to foreign governments and armed forces.
Arms race: A competition in which states build up military capabilities in response to one another. Rival states' procurement decisions can create recurring demand for new weapons.
Dual-use technology: Technology with both civilian and military applications. Dual-use products blur the boundary between arms production and commercial industry.
Arms Trade Treaty: A 2013 United Nations treaty regulating international trade in conventional arms. Its rules raise questions about how export decisions should weigh humanitarian risks.
Foreign military sales: A U.S. government program that arranges sales of defense articles and services to foreign governments. It shows how states can broker exports rather than leave sales solely to companies.
Defense spending: Government expenditure on armed forces, military equipment, and related activities. Public budgets finance many industry contracts and shape their scale.
