Arno Peters

Arno Peters (1916–2002) was a German historian and cartographer who promoted the Peters world map, an equal-area projection intended to represent countries’ relative areas accurately.

Gall–Peters projection: A cylindrical equal-area map projection that preserves relative area while distorting shapes, especially near the poles. Peters popularized this projection as a fairer alternative to familiar world maps.
James Gall: A Scottish clergyman and geographer who introduced cylindrical map projections in the nineteenth century. Gall devised the projection later associated with Peters decades before Peters promoted it.
