Arnolfini Portrait

A 1434 oil painting by Jan van Eyck depicting Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini and a woman in a domestic interior. Its mirror, inscriptions, and carefully rendered objects have prompted competing interpretations.

Convex mirror: A mirror with an outward-curving reflective surface that produces a wide-angle image. The small mirror reflects figures and details beyond the room’s foreground.
