Essay on the Inequality of the Human Races : Gobineau’s four-volume work, published from 1853 to 1855, arguing that racial mixture caused civilizations to decline. This is the book that sets out his racial hierarchy and theory of decline.
Racial admixture : The reproduction of people assigned to different racial groups, producing mixed ancestry. Gobineau argued that mixture weakened the qualities he attributed to supposedly superior races.
