Arthur Phillip

Arthur Phillip (1738–1814) was a Royal Navy officer who led the First Fleet and founded the British colony of New South Wales, serving as its first governor from 1788 to 1792.

First Fleet: The eleven ships that carried convicts, marines, and officials from Britain to New South Wales in 1787–1788. Phillip commanded this expedition and brought its settlers to Australia.
Convict transportation: The forced relocation of convicted people from Britain and Ireland to penal colonies, including Australia. The transported convicts formed most of the population Phillip governed.
