Asante Empire

The Asante Empire was a powerful Akan state centered on Kumasi in present-day Ghana. It expanded through military conquest and trade, and was governed through a confederated political system.

Asante Confederacy: A union of Asante states organized under the authority of the Asantehene and Kumasi. The confederacy linked constituent states while preserving local rulers and councils.
Osei Tutu: An Asante ruler who helped found the Asante Confederacy in the late seventeenth century. His leadership and alliance with Okomfo Anokye are associated with Asante unification.
