Knowra Asexuality Asexuality Asexuality is a sexual orientation characterized by experiencing little or no sexual attraction. It does not by itself determine romantic attraction, libido, sexual behavior, or attitudes toward sex.
Sexual attraction : A feeling of being sexually drawn to a person, distinct from sexual behavior or general affection. Asexuality is defined by experiencing little or no sexual attraction.
Gray asexuality : An orientation involving sexual attraction that is rare, weak, or limited to particular circumstances. It describes experiences between asexuality and more frequent sexual attraction.
Asexual Visibility and Education Network : An international organization that provides information and community resources about asexuality. AVEN helped establish widely used public resources and community discussion about asexuality.
Sexual health : A state of physical, emotional, and social well-being in relation to sexuality. Asexuality does not determine health needs, and respectful care avoids assuming attraction or activity.
Romantic orientation : A pattern in whom someone experiences romantic attraction, which can differ from sexual orientation. Asexual people may experience romantic attraction independently of sexual attraction.
Demisexuality : An orientation in which sexual attraction occurs only after a strong emotional connection has formed. It is commonly understood as part of the asexual spectrum.
Ace Week : An annual event promoting awareness and understanding of asexuality and the asexual spectrum. It provides a recurring public setting for asexual visibility and education.
Asexuality and mental health : The study of psychological well-being and mental-health care in relation to asexual identity and experience. Distinguishing orientation from distress helps prevent asexuality itself from being treated as a disorder.
Libido : A person's general level of sexual desire or drive, which need not be directed toward another person. Libido and sexual attraction are separate, so asexual people vary in desire.
Aromanticism : An orientation characterized by experiencing little or no romantic attraction. It concerns romantic attraction, which asexuality does not specify.
