Ashraf Ghani

Ashraf Ghani is an Afghan politician and anthropologist who served as president of Afghanistan from 2014 until the Taliban takeover in 2021.

Hamid Karzai: An Afghan politician who served as president from 2001 to 2014. Ghani succeeded Karzai after Afghanistan’s first contested presidential transition.
2014 Afghan presidential election: An Afghan election contested by Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani, followed by a US-mediated audit and power-sharing deal. The disputed result brought Ghani to the presidency and Abdullah into a senior executive role.
