Ashvamedha

The Ashvamedha was a Vedic royal horse sacrifice in which a consecrated stallion roamed for a year under royal protection before a concluding ritual asserted the ruler’s sovereignty and prestige.

Yajurveda: A Vedic collection of ritual formulas and instructions used by priests conducting sacrifices. Its ritual tradition preserves instructions associated with the Ashvamedha.
