Asian Games

The Asian Games are a continental multisport event held every four years, bringing together athletes representing Asian countries and territories.

Olympic Council of Asia: The governing body responsible for organizing the Asian Games and other Asian multisport events. It oversees the Games and determines which national Olympic committees participate.
Far Eastern Championship Games: A regional multisport competition held from 1913 to 1934 among Asian nations and territories. This earlier event provided a precedent for continental competition.
Asian Para Games: A multisport event for Asian athletes with disabilities, held after the Asian Games. It extends the continental event cycle to elite para sport.
Summer Olympic Games: The global multisport event held every four years under the International Olympic Committee. The Asian Games are continental and include sports beyond the Olympic program.
Asian Games host city: A city selected to stage a particular edition of the Asian Games. Host cities provide venues and infrastructure for the event’s many sports.
Sondhi N. S. Sondhi: An Indian sports administrator who helped establish the Asian Games Federation. His proposal helped turn the idea of an Asian multisport event into an organization.
Asian Winter Games: A continental multisport event for winter sports, organized under the Olympic Council of Asia. It creates a parallel Asian competition for snow and ice disciplines.
Commonwealth Games: A multisport event for athletes from Commonwealth countries and territories, usually held every four years. It is organized around Commonwealth membership rather than Asian geography.
National Olympic Committee: A country’s or territory’s organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee to develop and represent its Olympic movement. These committees enter delegations that compete at the Games.
Asian Games Federation: The organization founded in 1949 to establish and administer the Asian Games. It organized the first Games before its functions passed to the Olympic Council of Asia.
