Asilomar Conference

The Asilomar Conference was a 1975 meeting where scientists assessed potential hazards of recombinant DNA research and proposed safety guidelines for conducting it.

Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee: A U.S. National Institutes of Health committee that reviews research involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules. The NIH committee later formalized oversight of recombinant DNA research that Asilomar participants had urged.
