Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

The June 28, 1914, killing of Austro-Hungarian heir Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. The assassination prompted the July Crisis that helped trigger World War I.
