Assata Shakur

Assata Shakur is an American political activist and former Black Panther convicted in 1977 of killing New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster during a 1973 shootout. She escaped prison in 1979 and lived in Cuba, where she received political asylum.

Black Panther Party: A revolutionary Black political organization founded in Oakland in 1966, known for community programs and armed self-defense. Shakur joined the party in 1971, entering a movement that combined community work with militant resistance.
