Assyrian Empire

The Assyrian Empire was an ancient Mesopotamian state centered in northern Iraq, especially powerful during the first millennium BCE. It combined military expansion with provincial administration, tribute, and royal rule.

Neo-Assyrian army: The military forces of the Neo-Assyrian state, organized for siege warfare, rapid campaigns, and occupation. Its professional organization and siege tactics enabled Assyria’s repeated conquests.
Aššur: An ancient city on the Tigris River that served as the religious center and early capital of Assyria. The city gave the Assyrian state its name and remained sacred after the capital moved.
Ashurnasirpal II: A Neo-Assyrian king who ruled from 883 to 859 BCE and expanded Assyrian power while building at Kalhu. His campaigns and palace program established a model for later imperial kings.

Tiglath-Pileser III: An Assyrian king who ruled from 745 to 727 BCE and reorganized the empire while greatly expanding it. His reforms strengthened central control and transformed Assyrian expansion.
Nimrud: The modern name for ancient Kalhu, a major Assyrian royal city and capital in the ninth century BCE. Its monumental palace reliefs document imperial campaigns and court life.
Achaemenid Empire: The Persian Empire founded by Cyrus the Great in the sixth century BCE and expanded across western and central Asia. Its rulers adopted and adapted administrative practices developed by earlier Near Eastern empires.
