Asterix

A French comic-book series created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, following a village in Roman-occupied Gaul that resists conquest with help from a strength-giving potion.

Obelix: A menhir-delivering Gaul whose permanent superhuman strength comes from falling into the village’s magic potion as a child. His strength is permanent, unlike the temporary boost Asterix gets from the potion.
René Goscinny: French comic-book writer and editor who co-created Asterix and wrote its stories until his death in 1977. His scripts established the series’ wordplay, satire, and character voices.

Asterix and the Great Crossing: A 1975 Asterix album in which the heroes travel across the Atlantic and encounter Indigenous Americans. Its depiction of Indigenous people reflects the period’s stereotypes and invites critical scrutiny.
