August Faction Incident

The August Faction Incident was a 1956 political crisis in North Korea, when party leaders challenged Kim Il Sung and his allies at a Workers’ Party plenum. Their challenge failed, and the ensuing purges strengthened Kim’s control.

August 1956 Plenum: A Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee meeting held in Pyongyang in August 1956. At this meeting, opponents publicly criticized Kim Il Sung’s leadership before losing the confrontation.
