Austrian Empire

The Austrian Empire was a Central European monarchy ruled by the House of Habsburg from 1804 to 1867, when it became Austria-Hungary through the Ausgleich.

House of Habsburg: A European dynasty that ruled the Austrian lands and, at different times, the Holy Roman Empire and Spain. Its monarchs governed the empire and supplied its dynastic continuity.
Napoleonic Wars: A series of European conflicts from 1803 to 1815 involving Napoleonic France and shifting coalitions. Napoleon's victories dismantled the old imperial order and forced Habsburg political changes.
Francis I of Austria: The first Emperor of Austria, who ruled from 1804 until his death in 1835. His reign established the new imperial title and conservative order.
Revolutions of 1848: A wave of political revolutions across Europe demanding constitutional government, national rights, and social change. Revolts across the monarchy exposed tensions its government could not resolve.
