Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Austria-Hungary occupied Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1878 and administered it until the empire’s collapse in 1918, formally annexing the territory in 1908.

Congress of Berlin: The 1878 diplomatic congress that revised the Treaty of San Stefano and authorized Austria-Hungary to occupy Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its decision gave Austria-Hungary international authority to occupy the province.
Young Bosnia: A revolutionary movement of mostly South Slav students in Bosnia and Herzegovina before the First World War. Its members opposed Habsburg rule and sought South Slav national liberation.
