Ayutthaya Kingdom

A Siamese kingdom centered on Ayutthaya that flourished from 1351 until Burmese forces conquered and destroyed its capital in 1767.

Chao Phraya River: A major river of central Thailand that flows through Bangkok into the Gulf of Thailand. Its waterways linked the capital to inland settlements and maritime trade.
Uthong: The founder-king of Ayutthaya, traditionally identified as Ramathibodi I, who ruled from 1351 to 1369. His establishment of the capital marks the kingdom’s conventional beginning.
Naresuan: A king of Ayutthaya who ruled from 1590 to 1605 and secured independence from Burmese rule. His military campaigns restored Ayutthaya’s sovereignty after a period of Burmese domination.

Narai: A king of Ayutthaya who ruled from 1656 to 1688 and expanded diplomatic relations with Europe and Asia. His court’s diplomacy made Ayutthaya a prominent participant in global trade and politics.
Ayutthaya–Japan relations: Commercial and diplomatic connections between Ayutthaya and Japan, especially prominent in the early seventeenth century. Japanese merchants and residents became part of the capital’s cosmopolitan trade network.
Fall of Ayutthaya: The Burmese conquest and destruction of Ayutthaya in 1767, ending the kingdom’s rule from its historic capital. The city’s capture ended the kingdom and scattered its people and institutions.
