Baekje

Baekje was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, ruling much of the peninsula’s southwest from the late first millennium BCE until its fall in 660 CE. It developed close ties with Japan and transmitted continental culture and Buddhism across the sea.

Onjo of Baekje: A legendary founder of Baekje, traditionally identified as a son of Jumong, founder of Goguryeo. Later histories credit Onjo with founding Baekje around the Han River.
Geunchogo of Baekje: A Baekje king who ruled in the fourth century and expanded the kingdom’s power. His campaigns and diplomacy brought Baekje to a peak of influence.
Baekje–Japan relations: Diplomatic, cultural, and military connections between Baekje and the early Japanese state. These ties made Japan a major partner and refuge during Baekje’s final crisis.
Goguryeo: An ancient Korean kingdom that ruled much of the peninsula’s north and parts of Manchuria. Goguryeo was Baekje’s principal northern rival and captured its early capital.

King Gaero of Baekje: A Baekje king who ruled from 455 to 475, during conflict with Goguryeo. His reign ended when Goguryeo captured Hanseong and killed him.

Silla: An ancient Korean kingdom that unified much of the peninsula in the seventh century. Silla allied with Tang against Baekje before absorbing its territory.
Goguryeo–Baekje wars: A series of conflicts between the Korean kingdoms of Goguryeo and Baekje. The wars drove Baekje’s loss of its northern capital and territory.
Seong of Baekje: A Baekje king who moved the capital to Sabi and promoted Buddhism. His reforms accompanied Baekje’s recovery before his death in battle.
