Knowra Balkan Mountains Balkan Mountains The Balkan Mountains are a range in Bulgaria extending from the Serbian border to the Black Sea. They form a major watershed and divide northern from southern Bulgaria.
Balkan Peninsula : The southeastern European peninsula bounded by the Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean, and Black seas. The range gives the peninsula its name and forms a major east–west landform across it.
Stara Planina : The Bulgarian name for the Balkan Mountains, meaning “Old Mountain.” This is the range’s standard local name and the basis of its Bulgarian regional geography.
Balkan Mountains etymology : The history of the name “Balkan,” applied to the mountain range and later to the peninsula. The range’s name became the defining geographic label for the wider peninsula.
