Barber-surgeon

A practitioner who combined surgery with barbering, often learning through apprenticeship rather than university study. Barber-surgeons performed practical procedures such as wound treatment, tooth extraction, and bloodletting.

Bloodletting: The removal of blood from the body as a treatment or diagnostic practice. Barber-surgeons commonly performed it, often using lancets or cupping.
