Barnaul

Barnaul is a city in southwestern Siberia, Russia, on the Ob River. It is the administrative center of Altai Krai and a major regional hub.

Akinfiy Demidov: A Russian industrialist who developed mining and metallurgical enterprises in the Urals and Siberia. His Altai mining enterprise founded the settlement that became Barnaul.
Ob River: A major Siberian river flowing north from the Altai region to the Arctic Ocean. Barnaul stands on its west Siberian course, which linked the city to river transport.
