Barry Marshall

Barry Marshall is an Australian physician and microbiologist who shared the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering that Helicobacter pylori causes gastritis and peptic ulcers.

Helicobacter pylori: Helicobacter pylori is a spiral-shaped bacterium that colonizes the stomach and can cause gastritis and peptic ulcers. Marshall identified this bacterium as the cause of many cases of gastritis and peptic ulcers.
Robin Warren: Robin Warren was an Australian pathologist who identified curved bacteria in stomach biopsies and partnered with Barry Marshall. Warren’s biopsy observations prompted the collaboration that established H. pylori’s medical significance.
