Basketball passing

Basketball passing is the transfer of the ball between teammates to advance it, preserve possession, or create a scoring opportunity. Its timing, accuracy, and choice of target shape offensive play.

Chest pass: A two-handed pass propelled from the chest toward a teammate at chest height. Its direct path suits short, unobstructed exchanges between teammates.
Assist (basketball): A statistical credit awarded to a player whose pass directly leads to a teammate’s made basket. Assists record one visible outcome of successful offensive passing.

Overhead pass: A two-handed pass released from above the head, often to cover distance or clear a defender. The high release helps move the ball over pressure near the passer.
Motion offense: A team offense built around coordinated movement, screening, and passing rather than fixed player positions. Frequent exchanges and cuts make passing the connective structure of the offense.
