Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana, on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. It is a major center of state government, petrochemical industry, and higher education.

French Louisiana: A French colonial territory in North America that existed from 1682 to 1762 and again from 1800 to 1803. Baton Rouge developed within this colonial territory and inherited its French name.
