Battle of Ain Jalut

The 1260 battle in Palestine in which the Mamluk Sultanate defeated a Mongol army, ending its advance toward Egypt and checking Mongol expansion in the Levant.

Qutuz: The Mamluk sultan who led the campaign against the Mongols in 1260. He rallied the Mamluk state and commanded its forces at Ain Jalut.
Mongol invasion of the Levant: The Mongol campaign that conquered much of the Levant in 1259–1260. It brought Mongol forces into Syria and within reach of Egypt.
