Battle of Arausio

A Roman defeat by the Cimbri and Teutones near Arausio in southern Gaul in 105 BC. It was one of the worst military disasters in Roman history.

Gnaeus Mallius Maximus: A Roman consul in 105 BC who commanded an army at Arausio. His strained command relationship with Caepio helped divide the Roman forces.
Cimbrian War: A series of conflicts between Rome and migrating peoples, chiefly the Cimbri and Teutones, from 113 to 101 BC. Arausio was a major Roman defeat in this prolonged conflict.
