Battle of Bouvines

A decisive French victory over a coalition led by Otto IV, fought on 27 July 1214 near Bouvines in northern France.

Philip II of France: King of France from 1180 to 1223 who expanded royal power and defeated a coalition at Bouvines. He commanded the French army and emerged with his crown strengthened.
