Battle of Caporetto

A major battle fought from October 24 to November 19, 1917, in which Austro-Hungarian and German forces broke through Italian lines near Caporetto, forcing a retreat to the Piave River.

Infiltration tactics: A military method in which small units bypass strongpoints to penetrate enemy positions and disrupt rear areas. German assault groups used these tactics to rupture Italian defenses and unsettle command and communications.
