Battle of Marignano

The Battle of Marignano was fought on 13–14 September 1515 near modern Melegnano, Italy. French and Venetian forces defeated the Swiss Confederacy, helping secure French control of Milan.

Swiss pike square: A dense infantry formation of pikemen designed to advance against enemy troops and cavalry. Swiss columns used pikes to press French lines, but struggled against artillery and coordinated attacks.
