Battle of Mons Lactarius

A battle fought near Mount Vesuvius in 553, in which Byzantine forces under Narses defeated the Ostrogoths and broke their organized resistance in Italy.

Narses: A Byzantine general and imperial official who led the reconquest of Italy under Justinian I. He commanded the Byzantine forces that defeated the Ostrogoths at Mons Lactarius.
Justinian I: Byzantine emperor from 527 to 565 who sought to restore imperial rule across former Roman territories. His campaign to reconquer Italy created the conflict that culminated at Mons Lactarius.
