Battle of Morgarten

A battle fought near Morgarten in 1315 in which forces of the Swiss Confederacy defeated an army led by the Habsburg duke Leopold I. Its outcome strengthened the Confederates’ alliance and resistance to Habsburg rule.

Morgarten Pass: A narrow, wooded passage beside Lake Ägeri in central Switzerland, associated with the 1315 battle. The constricted route left Leopold’s advancing troops vulnerable to attacks from the slopes.
