Battle of Nahavand

A battle fought around 642 in which Arab Muslim forces defeated a Sasanian army. The defeat accelerated the collapse of Sasanian rule in Persia.

Battle of al-Qadisiyyah: A battle in 636 or 637 in which Arab Muslim forces defeated a Sasanian army near Ctesiphon. Its earlier defeat weakened Sasanian power and set the stage for renewed fighting at Nahavand.
