Battle of Talikota

The Battle of Talikota was fought in 1565 between the Vijayanagara Empire and a coalition of Deccan sultanates. The coalition’s victory shattered Vijayanagara’s political dominance in southern India.

Rama Raya: A Vijayanagara statesman who exercised power as regent and led its forces at Talikota. His capture and execution during the battle helped turn a contested fight into a rout.
Bahmani Sultanate: A Deccan sultanate founded in 1347 that fragmented into several successor states. Its former territories became the rival sultanates that joined against Vijayanagara.

Battle of Bannihatti: An alternative name often used for the 1565 battle near Talikota. This name reflects another proposed location associated with the engagement.
Vijayanagara Empire: A South Indian empire founded in 1336 whose capital was Vijayanagara, near present-day Hampi. The empire survived the battle in diminished form, challenging claims that it ended immediately in 1565.
