Battle of the Denmark Strait

A Second World War naval battle fought on 24 May 1941, in which the German battleship Bismarck sank the British battlecruiser HMS Hood.

Bismarck: A German battleship commissioned in 1940 and sunk by British forces in May 1941. Its salvo struck Hood and triggered the explosion that destroyed the British battlecruiser.
Operation Rheinübung: The German naval operation in May 1941 that sent Bismarck and Prinz Eugen into the Atlantic. This sortie brought the German ships into contact with Hood and Prince of Wales.
