Battle of Ticinus

A cavalry battle fought in northern Italy during the Second Punic War, in which Hannibal defeated Roman forces led by Publius Cornelius Scipio.

Numidian cavalry: Light cavalry from North Africa known for speed, mobility, and skill with javelins. Their mobility helped Hannibal's cavalry outmaneuver the Roman force.
Second Punic War: A war between Rome and Carthage fought from 218 to 201 BCE. Ticinus was an early Roman defeat in Hannibal's Italian campaign.
Battle of Lake Trasimene: A Carthaginian ambush that destroyed a Roman army in central Italy in 217 BCE. It extended the string of defeats that began with Rome's losses in northern Italy.
