Battle of Vimy Ridge

A Canadian-led Allied assault captured Vimy Ridge from German forces in northern France on April 9–12, 1917. Its coordinated planning and artillery support made it a notable First World War battle.

Creeping barrage: An artillery tactic in which shellfire advances ahead of attacking infantry at a timed pace. Canadian infantry followed a moving curtain of shells to cross no-man’s-land and approach German defenses.
