Battle of Vouillé

A battle fought around 507 in which Frankish king Clovis I defeated Visigothic king Alaric II near Vouillé in western Gaul. Alaric was killed, and the Visigoths lost most of their territory north of the Pyrenees.

Clovis I: King of the Franks who united much of Gaul under Merovingian rule and converted to Nicene Christianity. His victory at Vouillé expanded Frankish control across much of southern Gaul.
Vouillé: A commune in western France, near the traditional site of the Battle of Vouillé. The battle takes its name from this place near Poitiers.
