Battles of Saratoga

Two battles fought in New York in 1777, ending in an American victory over a British army. The victory helped bring France into the American Revolutionary War as an ally of the United States.

Battle of Freeman's Farm: A September 19, 1777, battle near Saratoga in which British forces held the field but suffered heavy losses. The first engagement checked Burgoyne’s advance and weakened his army.
